x-2017 Lily Show

A letter from our President, Alicia Boyd.

June 28, 2017

Good Morning!

Let me start by giving you all a well deserved “THANK YOU” and a special thank you goes out to Larry Diehl, for always being willing to drive up from Ohio to help out with judging our Lily show. We all worked together and made this year’s Lily Show, the best show ever. Best of all we had 10 members cut and enter lily stems this year. Take a look at the attached photos, all the stems you see came from MRLS members. Many of you experience the thrill of winning that first ribbon and oh what a thrill it is. I can’t tell you how proud I am to see so many of you get involved. We had members that did not have lilies to show, but they still came out at 8 AM to help with the set up or drop off food. All of these efforts make a great Society. In the world that we living today not many people are willing to join a garden club, which makes it hard to recruit new members. We may be a small group, but we are very active group that does our very best to get the word out about the genius lilium.

We hosted some very well attended events this season. The question now is where do we go from here? We start by having a general membership meeting as soon as possible. If you’re willing to host this meeting at your home please give me a call. If no one comes forward, I’ll call the church and schedule a meeting there for a Saturday morning. We’re on the tail end of summer, it would be much nicer to meet at someone’s home. Our Bulb Sale is scheduled for October 14th, this year. We started our efforts to find and purchase the best bulbs available, at this years Lily Show in St. Louis.

Many of you have already expressed the fact that you would like to see more martagons at the sale this year. We are going to fulfill that desire but you must keep in mind martagon bulbs are more expensive than others. We did strike some great deals on martagons that grow very well in our area at the Lily Show in St. Louis. If you have a wish list of bulbs you would like to have, please get it to me as soon as possible. We won’t be able to cover every request, but I’m sure we can cover some of them.

Thanks again for all your efforts.

Sincerely,

Alicia Boyd, President
