2012 Spring MRLS meeting

Saturday, March 19th at 10am.

It's time to share our pleasures and pains of gardening, as spring really is here and the lilies are growing strong. Some are damaged by frost (the painful) and some look like elegant ladies and handsome gentlemen about to adorn themselves with blossoms (the pleasure). Join with your fellow Lily Society members to discuss all aspects of gardening and hear about the best ways to record your successes.

The meeting will include a DVD presentation from the NALS Show of 2011 in Hamilton, Ontario. The DVD is of a presentation by Frans Officer from Minnesota in which he shared his beautiful photos of lilies and photography tips on how to get the best photos in your garden. Frans Officer is an outstanding prize winning lily grower and photographer. His humor and wit add to this presentation. After the DVD will be time for questions and answers about the subject of their garden photography, led by Dick Bayerl.

We will also discuss the work being done by MRLS to rennovate and redesign the MRLS lily garden at the Detroit Zoo. This garden was created 30 years ago. Bonnie Krueger is chairing this project and she has obained an estimate for the initial redesigning steps which includes replacing the overgrown box wood hedge around the garden. We need our members' opinions and consent for spending in the four figure range to improve and update the garden.

The 2012 Lily Bulb sale plans will be discussed.
